Kelowna

This is a band neither from Glasgow or has even played in the city, but Fields of Green (F.O.G) are a band that i really want too see tour the U.K. as I think they would get a great reception. The band are based in Kelowna, Canada and they were introduced to me through my great friend (and friend of the band), Torin whilst he was studying here in Scotland. He has a great wealth of knowledge of music and introduced a few genres of music that where new to me. But out of all the bands that he let me listen to, Fields of Green were the ones that caught my eye.

Through their tracks on you tube and their fairly new debut album, you can clearly tell who they have been influenced by: artists like Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley, Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire to name a few. The front man: Kyle Tubbs has a great range in his voice which feeds off well from the rest of the band, all clearly talented musicians and songwriters. I really want to see this band play in Glasgow and an Oran Mor with its great acoustics would be perfect for this group. The track that I've put on here is actually quite different from the majority of their work, with a sound that is similar too an early Kings of Leon track, especially with its simple but heavy guitar riff that is truly rock and roll. Fast paced and full of energy, you can see why I really want to see this band.

This is different

George Ezra, a singer songwriter from Bristol, is sure to have a bright future . His surprisingly powerful voice and equally charismatic guitar playing are qualities that have been pinned to numerous breakthrough male artists, but this is different. I think it's the whole package. He has a simplicity to his lyrics that actually become very clever and his voice is truly unique for a guy of his age (. When you first hear and see him, its highly likely your first reaction will be "I didn't see that coming". It's these small things that I think will make him a front runner in his musical niche.

Having heard his music by simply scrolling through soundcloud and you tube, I hope to see him tour soon and a venue like King Tuts would be a perfect place too see him. However I don't think it will be too long before he is selling out the Academy and even the Barrowlands.

On his website their is a free download for his track Budapest, his best to date, and I recommend giving it a listen: http://www.georgeezra.com/

This is the first track I heard of his, another artist with great potential.

Need to get a ticket

Here is a band that have seem to grown in popularity in the past few weeks possibly due to their exposure on TITP highlights. They are also getting recognition from bands that have already gained success in the indie world. Palma violets have lined them up to support them at their abc gig. A great line up on the night overall, completed by the addition of Childhood (need to get tickets for that one).

Glasgow boys, Baby strange,  have a rough sound to them but as their chorus in: Friend shows, they can write a catchy riff. They may prick the ears of fans of the Clash, the Ramones and the like. Definitely keep an eye out for these guys in the next few months.

But that's not me

I'm not particularly experienced at writing my thoughts and displaying them to the people of the internet, but I enjoy finding new music within and outwith Glasgow and sharing it with other people. Often I hear people say: "I literally listen to everything, I have a really wide and varied taste", I admire people like that, but that's not me. I do have a core of genres that I base my listening on: indie, alternative, mod. But when I hear something that I wouldn't usually associate with my prefer genres and I know its good, I like to talk to people about it.

I'm Stephen, I am at university studying physical education, a complete opposite to this blog, but going to gigs and scrolling through soundlcoud is a release for me. Blogging is something I have wanted to try and I'm eager to share music that I have found: old or new. So check out some of the music I have been enjoying and see if you like it.

Here is a band I recently discovered from a Peace gig. I then saw their free gig at Sleazy's, a band that I'm sure will be a future cover for NME
